Anonymous NBA Executive Predicts LeBron James Will Ultimately Choose Warriors Despite Free Agency Delay

A new free agency prediction has LeBron James signing with the Golden State Warriors.

One of the biggest questions surrounding the Warriors this offseason is whether their interest in pursuing James is real or dried up, and one NBA executive believes he will sign with them.

An anonymous rival NBA executive told Forbes writer Mark Medina that he believes LeBron James will ultimately sign with the Warriors for “various reasons.” Medina then explained why:

“The Warriors could sign James at a non-taxpayer mid-level exception at $15 million. He has a close bond and respect for Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Draymond Green after once serving as adversaries in four consecutive NBA Finals against Cleveland (2014-18). Since winning the 2022 NBA title, the Warriors have lost twice in the second round (2023, 2025) and in the NBA’s Play-In tournament (2024, 2026). But they could theoretically be in the mix so long as Curry, Green, and James stay relatively healthy.”

He also cited that the close proximity between the Bay Area and Los Angeles, alongside head coach Steve Kerr likely reducing practices and shootarounds to manage his veteran-laden roster, would allow James to seriously consider choosing Golden State over other teams.

With this in mind, the Warriors would be wise to make a run at another NBA title. It is no secret that the Warriors need to improve their roster on the forward side, and bringing in a veteran like LeBron James would help them do just that.

While James is 41, he is still an impactful player at this stage of his career. In 60 games during his last season with the LA Lakers, the veteran forward averaged 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists. With numbers like these, he would be a strong pickup for the Warriors, gelling perfectly with Curry, Draymond, and a roster that is aiming to get back into the contention column.

Warriors Get Extra Time to Fix Finances as LeBron James’ Agent Makes Key Announcement

LeBron James’ agent, Rich Paul, told reporter Mark Medina that LeBron won’t be making a free agency decision “anytime soon.” This gives the Warriors a few extra days to figure out their finances.

Even though Draymond Green took a pay cut to help make room, Kristaps Porzingis signing a new two-year, $40 million deal messed up the Warriors’ plan to use their full $15 million exception. Now, general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has to find a quick way to trade away some salary to make space for LeBron.

Signing LeBron to a smaller taxpayer exception might actually be the smarter move for Golden State anyway. A one-year deal makes the most sense because of LeBron’s age and his preference to keep his options open for next year. The Warriors don’t have a ton of cap space this summer, so it will be interesting to see how hard they actually push to get him.
