NBA Fans in Splits as Spurs Win Game 4 After Salesian Sisters Bless Luke Kornet: “When You Bring Nuns to The Game, You Ain’t Losing”

NBA fans were quick to relate the Salesian Sisters’ blessing Luke Kornet to the San Antonio Spurs’ Game 4 blowout win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday. The Spurs hosted the nuns courtside, who received loud cheers at the arena and had X users buzzing. The reactions went more viral after Kornet’s interaction with them.

After the Spurs won 103-82 in a completely lopsided contest, here’s how fans gave shoutouts to the nuns and them blessing Luke Kornet, among other things:

“When you bring the nuns to the game, you ain’t losing,” one X user wrote.

“Luke Kornet getting blessed pregame actually worked,” another said.

“This is just unfair now with the nuns,” one fan added.

“OKC fans want nun of it,” another wrote.

“I’m hearing a lot of analytical takes about why the Spurs won tn. I personally find it pretty clear that the only reason the Spurs won was because of that moment between Kornet and the nuns,” one fan said

“Luke Kornet needs to fly the nuns to OK city home games,” one fan added.

Former NBA player jokes about Luke Kornet opposing Magic City night after getting blessings from nuns

Former NBA player Joe Johnson mocked Luke Kornet’s interaction with nuns courtside before the Spurs’ Game 4 win over the Thunder, citing his pusback against the Hawks’ “Magic City Night” promotion.

“I see why Kornet was pissed off about Magic City Night, he’s hanging out with the Nuns,” Johnson said on “Night Cap” with Shannon Sharp and Chad Johnson.

Kornet opposed the Hawks’ “Magic City Night,” which was scheduled for March 16. The move was made to honor the local strip club’s ties to Atlanta. Kornet led the push to stop it and succeeded as the NBA and Hawks canceled the event following pushback from several league stakeholders.

Kornet released a blog on Medium titled “Concerning The Atlanta Hawks,” in which he broke down why the promotion of a strip club harms the NBA’s image.

“Allowing this night to go forward without protest would reflect poorly on us as an NBA community, specifically in being complicit in the potential objectification and mistreatment of women in our society,” Kornet wrote. “The celebration of a strip club is not conduct aligned with that vision.”

Luke Kornet has expressed his faith through church blogging and public comments. He’s an active member of the Knights of Columbus organization. Fans were already expecting the Spurs to get the win when the team uploaded videos of the nuns wearing San Antonio’s black jerseys.
