LeBron James Reportedly Open to Teaming Up With Jaylen Brown Despite Controversial Comments on Bronny James

After not being re-signed by the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, LeBron James is an unrestricted free agent. This comes after the 41-year-old superstar stated that he and the Lakers are going separate ways, as his top priorities are winning and finding “basketball happiness” for his 24th season.

James is reportedly on the radar of three primary teams whose interest has become public knowledge: the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers. It is not hard to understand why these three franchises are monitoring James. Despite being the oldest player in the league, he put up an incredible 2025-26 campaign, averaging 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game.

However, the Philadelphia 76ers are now being floated as a major potential landing spot for James, particularly after acquiring Jaylen Brown in a shocking blockbuster trade on Wednesday. If acquired, James could provide elite offensive production and veteran depth for an NBA team looking to contend, making it well worth the gamble for Philly’s front office.

At the same time, the rumors have raised questions about his potential connection with Brown. LeBron James previously took issue with comments Brown made during Summer League suggesting that Bronny James wasn’t an NBA-level player.

“Our relationship has been pretty respectful. You know, besides the [expletive] he said about Bronny at Summer League,” James said regarding the incident back in February 2026.

According to 6ABC insider Jason Dumas, LeBron James would have “no issues” teaming up with newly acquired guard Jaylen Brown, effectively removing any major roadblock from Philadelphia’s free-agency pitch.

“Source: LeBron James would have no issues teaming with Jaylen Brown despite JB’s comments on Bronny. I know both have somewhat cleared the air publicly, but I was told directly — it is not a focus, LeBron has “moved on.” Obviously this is relevant w the Sixers pursuit of LBJ,” Dumas wrote on X.

While the rumors are still in their infancy stage, it makes perfect sense why the 76ers would want to sign him. He is highly experienced, a proven winner, and could serve as an invaluable mentor to younger stars like Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe.

If Philadelphia decides to go down this route, there is a very good chance the 76ers’ powerhouse starting lineup would consist of LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Jaylen Brown.

76ers GM’s Brother Teases Big LeBron James News

Hours after news broke about the 76ers’ interest in landing LeBron James in free agency, Steven Gansey, brother of 76ers President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey, fueled the fire by sharing an old high school photo of a teenage James standing next to a young Mike Gansey.

It is worth noting that James and Gansey are very close from their top Ohio high school days. Gansey also worked with James during his second stint in Cleveland, where they won a championship together.

He has since become Philadelphia’s top executive this season, and the timing of his brother’s post, coupled with the Sixers’ active offseason, is more than enough to suggest that the 76ers are far from done this offseason.
