The Portland Trail Blazers are one of the teams currently in the mix for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown.
The Blazers are in need of a roster upgrade to make a deep playoff run. Because of this, they have been viewed as a potential fit for Brown, who is currently one of the NBA’s top trade candidates.
While Brown has the potential to be a great fit alongside Damian Lillard, who is coming back from a season-long absence due to an ACL injury, it appears that he is very much on Portland’s radar.
According to insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein, the Trail Blazers stand out as the “most aggressive pursuer” of Brown this offseason.
“Portland has coveted Brown since Damian Lillard’s first run there, and now has the assets to chase him,” they reported via NBARetweet.
However, the catch is that Boston is reportedly asking for as many as four first-round picks.
With this update, it seems likely that the Blazers could be the ultimate landing spot for Jaylen Brown this offseason. While the 2024 Finals MVP would be a massive pickup in theory for the Blazers, the Celtics are demanding a steep return for him in a potential move.
Do the Blazers Have the Assets to Make the Jaylen Brown Trade Happen?
Fortunately for Portland, it has the necessary picks to trade to the Celtics in its pursuit of Jaylen Brown. While the Blazers didn’t draft in the first round of the 2026 NBA draft, they are still actively looking for the right impact players to make a move.
Per Joe Freeman of The Oregonian/OregonLive, the Portland front office was closely monitoring the market just in case the right player at the right value became available.
Portland still possesses more than enough assets to make a deal for Brown happen. The team holds six outright tradable first-round picks and multiple future second-round selections, giving it flexibility for a blockbuster trade.
And Brown is also precisely the kind of player the Blazers need at the moment. He not only makes impactful offensive contributions but also provides a plethora of grit. He has also emerged as a strong leader for the Celtics in the absence of superstar Jayson Tatum, which significantly adds to his overall appeal.
Another highly appealing factor about Brown is that he would be far more than a short-term rental for the Blazers if acquired. This is because he carries a $183 million total cap hit over the next three seasons until the end of the 2028-29 season, keeping him locked down for the long haul.
In 71 games this season, he averaged career highs of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists, marking the best all-around campaign of his 10-year NBA career.
