West Team Emerges as Jaylen Brown Landing Spot Amid Giannis to Celtics Trade Rumors

The Los Angeles Clippers could enter the Giannis Antetokounmpo multi-team trade to acquire Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics. Over the past few days, the buzz has picked up around Antetokounmpo heading to Boston. Brown would likely be the obvious candidate to get traded in such a deal.

However, the Bucks may not want the 29-year-old, as they would head for a rebuild if Antetokounmpo gets dealt. In such a scenario, Brown would likely get shipped to another team. According to basketball reporter Grant Afseth, the Clippers have emerged as a potential team to do so.

“A potential multi-team trade framework making the rounds in league circles would bring Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Boston Celtics and send Jaylen Brown to the Los Angeles Clippers, with the Clippers’ No. 5 overall pick going to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the return,” Afseth wrote for Dallas Hoops Journal on Monday.

The Clippers landed the fifth pick in the draft through the Ivica Zubac trade, as the Pacers failed to land a top-four pick in the lottery. If Los Angeles wants to compete, trading would make sense. If it doesn’t, Kawhi Leonard will likely get traded, and the Clippers will retain it.

The Bucks would likely welcome the opportunity to acquire the fifth pick. They would get two lottery picks after landing the No. 10 selection. Milwaukee could package both to jump higher or keep them and acquire two prospects instead.

Early observations of Jaylen Brown and Kawhi Leonard’s fit together on the Clippers

Jaylen Brown and Kawhi Leonard would form one of the two-way perimeter duos in the NBA if such a trade goes through. Both are efficient on either end of the floor. It would almost be an upgrade on the Paul George-Kawhi Leonard tandem, which failed to hit its ceiling as a championship duo.

Brown is younger and injury-prone like George. His addition would also give Leonard much-needed help in the regular season. Brown proved last year that he’s capable of being a ‘1A’ on a contender after leading Boston to the No. 2 seed with Jayson Tatum having missed 80% of the season. Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists, shooting 47.7% from the field, recording his best individual season.

The Clippers already have a reliable point guard in Darius Garland to relieve Jaylen Brown and Kawhi Leonard of ball-handling duties, so the Clippers could have a nice makeup if they pull this off.
