Is Luka Doncic Actually a “Terrible” Defender? The Brutal Truth Behind Danny Green’s Comments Examined

Luka Doncic had another 40-point outing in the last game against the Phoenix Suns, but the LA Lakers once again failed to register a win. The team has now lost three games in a row, and second in a clutch moment. And the Slovenian was involved in both situations. This has led to several arguments and doubts from fans and analysts about the Lakers’ offense.

Grayson Allen had the ball in the final moments and waited for his teammate to make a switch and get Doncic on the play. The Suns guard attacked Doncic, and when the defense moved towards Allen, he made the pass to the corner, which finally landed with Royce O’Neal, who made the game-winning three-pointer with 0.9 seconds on the clock.

Former NBA player and analyst Danny Green broke down the final play and found loopholes in the 2019 Rookie of the Year’s defense. Lakers Daily shared the former Laker’s statement on X:

“They were attacking Luka. That was the game plan, which most teams are gonna do. Not just because he’s a terrible defender, but he’s the weaker defender of the Lakers.”

The Lakers are already among the bottom six in defensive rating, and Luka Doncic’s history with defense has not been great. In the comment section of the post, a user even shared a stat comparison between Doncic and LeBron James to determine which player is worse in defense.

There is no doubt that the team will have to improve on the defensive end if it wants to make a deep playoff run.

“I think he has losing habits,” Former NBA player sounds off on Luka Doncic

Former NBA player Jay Williams also criticized the back-to-back losses of the Lakers and sounded off on their superstar Luka Doncic for not winning games for the team. He said:

“I think Luka is one of the most talented players I’ve ever seen in the history of the game, but I think he has losing habits. I think he has bad habits… His impact on the game is not aligned with the statistical output. You see the crazy numbers, but I don’t know if it impacts winning.”

Luka Doncic is leading the league in scoring, but the Lakers can’t find a winning streak lately. Deandre Ayton again flopped, scoring two points and four rebounds, while Austin Reaves added 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

LeBron James scored 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Only time will tell if the Lakers will be able to snap the losing streak and get back to a winning run.
