“I Have Zero Respect for Him”: Jason Whitlock Blasts Stephen A. Smith for Going ‘10 Toes Down’ in Defense of Kevin Durant’s Black Americans Take

Jason Whitlock and Stephen A. Smith have been at loggerheads several times over their takes on NBA players. Once again, Whitlock blasted the ESPN analyst for blaming fans for facilitating the entry of European players to the league. The former believed that the NBA’s “greed” has resulted in the globalization of the league, and fans have nothing to do with it.

Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant earlier stated that he did not like the criticism of USA basketball by fans who say that “the Euros do it right while the Americans do it wrong.” ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith talked about the debate and said he was “10 toes down” on Durant’s take.

Another NBA analyst, Jason Whitlock, shared a video of his take on Smith’s defense of Durant during his ‘Fearless with Jason Whitlock’. He wrote in the post on X:

“Stephen A. Smith is defending Kevin Durant after he said the NBA doesn’t like black Americans. Stephen A. Smith actually wants to blame ‘racist’ fans for the success of foreign players. I have zero respect for him.”

The 2-time NBA champion highlighted the “racial” element in the statement from critics of USA basketball and believed that it was a shot at “Black Americans.” He added that no fans or analysts had an issue in earlier eras when Michael Jordan ruled the sport.

Whitlock presents another viewpoint to the debate between European and American players. He has often shared contrasting takes with Stephen A. Smith.

Kevin Durant fuels debate between European and American NBA players

A lot of conversation around European players like Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and others has been around on social media lately. The major difference that fans have associated the debate with is European players playing a more foul-based game, while American players prefer a more physical approach.

Many believe that basketball is associated with a physical style of play and is the identity of the game. However, the globalization of the sport and the influx of European players have created more competition in the league and allowed players to improve their game.
