Even in the sports world, U.S. President Donald Trump is a polarizing figure. For what it’s worth, one Basketball Hall of Famer thinks that Knicks fans will give the Chief Executive a warm welcome when he attends Game 3 in Madison Square Garden.
When TMZ Sports caught up with Amar’e Stoudemire, the former Knicks big man expressed his belief that Trump will be on the receiving end of a standing ovation Monday night.
“He deserves all the respect we can give him. It’s a tough job to be the President. I think Knicks fans will show him respect on Monday.”
While Stoudemire’s assessment of Trump will invite a variety of opinions, there’s no denying that the six-time All-Star has carved his own legacy in New York City.
From 2010 to 2015, Stoudemire suited up for the Knicks, helping lead the team to three consecutive playoff trips. During his first season with the team, the 6-foot-10 power dunker earned All-NBA Second Team honors.
Stoudemire, though, was never able to reach a conference final in New York. Over a decade after he last played for the team, the Knicks are now making waves in the Finals as they look to build on their formidable 2-0 series lead.
Knicks Announce “Enhanced Security Measures” for Game 3 in Madison Square Garden
With Knicks fans all pumped up and President Trump set to attend Game 3, the Knicks have announced the stringent measures that they’ll be observing Monday night.
These measures include a no-bag policy, screening procedures reminiscent of the TSA, and a strong suggestion for guests to arrive at the venue at least two hours before tip-off.
These “enhanced security measures” come on the heels of an incident after a Game 2 watch party outside Madison Square Garden. That night, 26 people were arrested and an NYPD officer was punched amidst crowd control efforts.
