Former San Antonio Spurs player Jeremy Sochan has shared a cryptic message on social media, seemingly in relation to Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. The forward was waived by the Spurs in February after his playing time steadily declined under coach Mitch Johnson. The New York Knicks signed him to a veteran minimum contract. However, Sochan still seems excited for his former team’s winner-takes-all game on Saturday.
The Thunder and the Spurs have had a busy schedule in the conference finals. After the Spurs took Game 6, 118-91, the two teams will now battle in Game 7. Sochan shared a cryptic post on X and wrote:
“Big day today!?”
Sochan did not mention whether he meant Game 7 by his post. Even though his former team is in the fight to feature in the NBA Finals, his current team, the Knicks, is already resting after making the finals for the first time since 1999. They closed out the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games in the Eastern Conference finals.
Meanwhile, Sochan has not been part of the active roster since Game 3 of the EC semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Knicks’ starters have done stellar work in the last few games and managed to keep the team ahead every moment of the postseason. However, Sochan seemingly has more motivation for backing the Spurs than the Thunder in Game 7.
Jeremy Sochan’s ring gets confirmed if the Spurs reach NBA Finals
Jeremy Sochan played more than half of his season with the Spurs, who are in contention to win the Western Conference. Moreover, he is currently on the active Knicks roster. That means if the Spurs win the conference finals, Sochan’s ring is more or less confirmed.
Even though it’s not a rule to award the ring to a player who is traded midseason, the franchise’s front office takes a call on that. However, it’s the norm for teams to award a ring to the entire roster after winning the title.
The Thunder remain the favorite to win Game 7, but Victor Wembanyama and Co. are sure to present a serious challenge to the defending champions. Only time will tell who the Knicks will face in the finals. The decisive game is scheduled for Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
