Drake has been around NBA controversies, and this time, he got Anthony Edwards involved as well. Earlier, the hip-hop artist was featured in the announcement video for Nike’s KD 19, the signature shoes of the Slim Reaper. The shoes have launched, and Drake is back with a new colorway, Field Purple.
Interestingly, Kevin Durant’s favorite protege, Anthony Edwards, also has a similar colorway of his signature shoe with Adidas, AE 1. That pair also gained a lot of attention during games. However, the 5-time Grammy-winning artist made sure to roast the rival brand in the video.
The advertisement showed the rapper being delivered to KD’s place in a fragile delivery box and opened like a ticking bomb. Drake gave the forward his new colorway, depicting the same “Yes man” character he had in the last campaign. Referring to Ant-Man’s similar purple colorway and hyping the new KD 19, he said:
“Hey Ant-Man, can you drop your purple shoes? Four kids in Minnesota asked me. Like, no one wants to see those.”
The “four children” jab might be a reference to Edwards’ four kids, who he has with four different babymamas.
Given the relationship between Edwards and Durant, it’s unlikely that the young star will take any offense from this. The two have played together on Team USA’s Olympic squad and have expressed their appreciation for each other several times. Ant-Man has even declared KD as his favorite player of all time.
After Drake’s Ad, Kevin Durant features In Top Trade Prospects List For This Offseason
Kevin Durant has been featured among the top 50 trade prospects in a list released by CBS Sports. The Houston Rockets are pursuing the championship but still lack depth and a reliable scoring duo to fight against new competitors like Victor Wembanyama.
For a long time, the two-time NBA champion was even rumored to be moving to New York as his new destination, but that did not materialize. Looking back, the forwards might be reevaluating their choices as the team won a dominant title this season. However, all that is in the past.
Durant will be in his 19th NBA season and is running out of time to land another ring. The Rockets, with a talented young core of Alperen Sengun and Amen Thompson, might be an option for him. However, the team management will have to make some crucial changes to improve the roster combination.
Moreover, Durant’s name is featured in the trade prospects, though he is on a two-year, $90 million deal with the Rockets that will keep him in Houston through the 2027-28 season.
