Dejounte Murray and the New Orleans Pelicans squad are trying to mount a comeback after a below-average regular season run thus far. However, a recent update on Murray’s future with the team shocked the Pelicans fans, who are already on the verge of getting eliminated from the playoff race this season.
Reinforcing earlier rumors about Murray’s trade during the mid-season trade period, a user posted on X that the Pels guard requested a trade from the front office. Murray himself reposted the news and clarified the confusion about his future. He wrote:
“LETS CLEAR THE AIR CAUSE FUCK A SOURCE… Me Or My Agent Never Requested A Trade Out Of NEW ORLEANS!!!! Joe And The Whole Organization Know I Was Locked In To Come Back Better Than Ever To Help Make This Play In Push And Whatever Comes After That!! It’s Bouts To Get Fun!!”
Murray returned to the court after a long hiatus due to his right Achilles tendon injury in the last game against the Golden State Warriors. He scored 13 points, with two rebounds and three assists. Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III have tried to keep the team afloat, but the 17-42 record has not helped their cause to feature in the play-ins.
Williamson was also caught up in injuries, and Murphy was constantly featured in trade talks. That has led to the downfall of the team this season, even after acquiring a talented rookie in Derik Queen.
“I use that all to fuel the fire,” Dejounte Murray details his mindset on his return
Dejounte Murray spoke to the media after the Pelicans’ practice session on Monday and expressed his take on returning at this juncture, when the team is already in danger of missing the playoffs again. However, he highlighted his love for the game and said:
“There’s a lot of excuses for a chump to be like, ‘Nah. I ain’t playing,’ And I’m the opposite of that… But for me, I love the game and I put myself in a position to be able to say I want to go out and play for not only my family and organization, but also the City of New Orleans… I feel like my best basketball is ahead of me.”
Even though Dejounte Murray seems eager to help the Pelicans make a run for a play-in spot, the threat of missing the postseason is very real for the team. Let’s see how the remaining portion of the regular season goes for them.
