“Didn’t Gel With Teammates” “PR Gimmick”: NBA Fans React After Kyrie Irving Addresses Absence From Cavaliers Reunion

Kyrie Irving sparked discussion among fans after the 2016 NBA championship squad reunited once again for a trip. While LeBron James was seen with other stars who brought the Cleveland Cavaliers their only championship, Irving was nowhere to be seen. However, after the hyped reunion of the former Cavs squad, the guard shared a post on social media that led fans to raise questions about his absence.

When fans raised questions about why Irving was not with the squad, the guard shared an Instagram post with an image of the 2016 squad and wrote:

“All for one. One for all. WE completed the mission together as brothers, and that’s all that matters to me…”

A fan asked the simple question in the comments section:

“why isn’t he there with them in person to celebrate it with them?”

Another user speculated that Irving was not that close to his teammates, and that’s why he did not show up for the reunion:

“It’s clear to me that Kyrie didn’t gel that deeply with his teammates and that’s fine.”

One user claimed that Irving’s post was just about “PR” and said:

    “Nice PR gimmick Cryrie”

Another user commented on the same line:

“pr gimmick but fine Mista Irving I’ll bite”

One more user mentioned the same argument:

“we not falling for dat pr gimmick”

This user dropped a sarcastic comment:

    “Nice PR stunt by Kyrie”

Earlier, one of the Cavaliers’ 2016 squad members, J.R. Smith, revealed that LBJ and others invited Irving to the trip, but he “ghosted” them. However, afterwards, he went back on his statement and said that Irving reached out to the team and clarified the reason for his absence.

NBA analyst puts Kyrie Irving trade rumors to rest

Kyrie Irving missed the entire 2025-26 season due to a torn ACL. The Dallas Mavericks, meanwhile, went on a spree in the midseason trade period to offload big contracts, including injury-ridden Anthony Davis and others. While the team looks to build around Cooper Flagg, it did not take a call on Irving.

And now, NBA analyst Marc J. Spears clarified rumors about his trade from Dallas and said:

“I do think he’ll be back on the roster. I know their owner is really, really high on seeing him and Cooper Flagg play together. And then Masai Ujiri had said in his introductory press conference that he wanted to see that as well.”

Kyrie Irving seems sure to be back with the Mavs next season and look for a second championship ring. Meanwhile, LeBron James will also face some uncertainties this offseason after the trip.
