The NBA world was rocked by the news of Stacey King’s death on Sunday. Tributes have poured in for the former Chicago Bull, including a teammate who won a three-peat with him in the early 90s.
In his Instagram tribute, Scottie Pippen honored King’s legacy on and off the basketball court.
“Sad to hear about the passing of Stacey King,” Pippen wrote. “A champion, a great teammate, and a true ambassador for the game. His impact on the Bulls organization and the city of Chicago will be remembered for generations. Rest in peace, King.”
After being drafted sixth overall by Chicago in 1989, King spent four and a half seasons with the Bulls, taking part in the establishment of their championship dynasty. In 344 regular-season games with the Bulls, the 6-foot-11 big man averaged 6.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per outing.
King went on to play for four more teams, with his final NBA games played in a Dallas Mavericks jersey during the 1996-97 season. After retiring from the league, King tried his hand at coaching before transitioning into the role of a TV analyst.
For 20 years, King entertained Bulls fans with his enthusiastic commentary and colorful nicknames for players. Sadly, he was found dead in his home on Sunday. He was 59.
