“Holy Unc Squad”: NBA Fans Erupt Over Reported Warriors Blockbuster Plan to Pair Anthony Davis and LeBron James With Steph Curry

Trade activity around the NBA is starting to pick up with 2026 NBA free agency starting tomorrow. The Golden State Warriors have yet to make a trade, but that could very well change as they are reportedly considering attempting to pull off one of the biggest moves of the offseason.

On Sunday night, Yahoo Sports Senior NBA Analyst Kevin O’Connor reported that the Warriors are attempting to trade for Wizards big Anthony Davis and then sign top free-agent candidate LeBron James this summer.

He also said that landing Davis would help lure James to “reunite with AD, team up with Steph Curry and Draymond Green, play for Steve Kerr, and chase one more championship with a roster of legends.”

Following this report, fans have voiced their opinions on social media. Much of the reaction, but not all, leaned toward the inevitable downsides that could follow the deal.

Here are some of the reactions on X, formerly known as Twitter:

If the Warriors are truly interested in pulling off such a monumental move, it obviously comes with certain risks, just as the fans have pointed out.

Even though Davis has had trouble staying healthy in recent years, on his best days, he is still one of the most dominant players in the league with the ability to completely impact a game on both ends of the floor. The same goes for James. While he is firmly in the twilight of his career, he clearly still has enough left in the tank to chase that elusive fifth ring. Teaming up with Steph Curry might just give him the perfect shot at it.

What Could the Warriors’ Trade Package Look Like?

According to Kevin O’Connor, the framework of the deal would center around Jimmy Butler, who is on an expiring $57 million contract, along with multiple assets. The Warriors possess two future first-round picks and four first-round pick swaps that could be packaged to make any potential deal work.

With the Lakers yet to make any official re-signing offers to James, the Warriors could tempt him with a $15 million offer. This deal would allow him to play alongside Steph Curry, Anthony Davis and Draymond Green, all of whom he shares a close bond with.

As for Davis, who is eligible for a massive $275 million extension this year, he would need to rework some of the contract terms to secure his max deal if he were traded this offseason. However, the Warriors can certainly work around the financial numbers if their interest is genuine.

Golden State has reportedly been searching for stars to elevate the franchise back into serious playoff contention, and they clearly view a core of Davis and James alongside Curry and Green as a shot worth taking.
