Becky Hammon’s well-recited take on Jalen Brunson not being the “1A guy” that every team needs to win a championship has taken the internet by storm after the New York Knicks won the title. And now, popular American sports commentator Adam Schein has given his take on Hammon’s comment and other naysayers who didn’t believe in the team.
The franchise ended its 53-year drought by winning the NBA championship by defeating the San Antonio Spurs in five games this season. After Game 5, Brunson was asked for his thoughts on the Las Vegas Aces coach’s comment. The Knicks guard chose not to reply, saying that he didn’t respond to it then and won’t say anything after the win.
Adam Schein, a die-hard Knicks fan and the host of the “Schein Time” show, expressed his frustration with Hammon’s comment:
“Becky Hammon is officially banned from the parade. In fact, I’ll take it a step further. She’s banned from not only the parade, but from New York City, all five boroughs. So we’ll give it a 365-day banishment for Becky, not a lifetime ban.”
Schein also took a dig at Elmo, a Sesame Street character, for not choosing a team before the NBA Finals tipped off. In a social media post, Elmo wished the two finalist teams the best for the series. The popular host said that he didn’t want to see Elmo’s face and added, “I wish we would have put that loser’s head on a stake.”
Every Knicks fan has earned bragging rights for now, as Jalen Brunson and Co. took the team to a hard-earned championship.
Jalen Brunson and Co. celebrate the title with championship parade
The Knicks and fans were on the streets of New York on Thursday, as Jalen Brunson and Co. take the Larry O’Brien Trophy through the city. Several videos on social media showed fans gathering around the stars, with bands taking over the celebrations.
Brunson took the championship trophy and his Finals MVP trophy to the fans and greeted them, along with his teammates. Mayor Zohran Mamdani also accompanied the team bus.
The team’s fans and management will revel in the moment for now before the league goes into preparation mode for the upcoming NBA draft.
