NASCAR Champion Jesse Love Withdraws From 2026 Chili Bowl Nationals After Violent Friday Night Crash

Jesse Love’s 2026 Chili Bowl Nationals journey ended abruptly after the NASCAR champion was involved in a ruthless crash during Friday’s segment. After that flip following the checkered flag, it was announced that the 21-year-old O’Reilly Auto Parts Series standout would not compete on Saturday.

The incident took place shortly after crossing the finish line. Coming off the final corner, Jesse Love and Giovanni Scelzi were battling for fifth-place. But after crossing the line, Love and Scelzi’s cars made wheel-to-wheel contact, sending Love’s Hendricks-backed ride airborne.

After flipping three times, Love’s car finally came to a halt on all four wheels. It was indeed a nerve-chilling moment for everyone present at the SageNet Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Veteran NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass took to X and wrote,

“Jesse Love won’t race today after that flip last night.”

Notably, it was Love’s fourth shot at the coveted Golden Driller Award, having competed in the Chili Bowl Nationals from 2021 through 2024. This time around, the young racing phenom finished fifth in a car owned by Blake Harris, crew chief for Alex Bowman and the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports group in the NASCAR Cup Series.

“You’re Going To End Up In The Dumpster”- Jesse Love Explains How “Respect” Can Fetch Success in The Chili Bowl Nationals

Jesse Love, who turned 21 in January, is no stranger to the challenges that the Chili Bowl Nationals has to offer to its competitors. He has been taking part in the Chili Bowl Nationals since 2021, sitting out of the 2025 version of the “bigger than life” dirt racing event, still visiting the SageNet Center as a fan.

In fact, it was that non-driver experience watching his friend Daison Pursley nearly win the 2025 Chili Bowl that made him want to compete again in 2026.

“Coming here last year and hanging out with two of my best friends, Daison Pursley and Chad Boat, I had a lot of fun watching them and supporting them,” Jesse Love said in a recent statement. “It was tough not being in the driver’s seat.”

Speaking of the Chili Bowl Nationals, Love continued,

“It’s like the mecca, and it really is. But it’s true that it is all based off your perspective. As you start to gain your own confidence and get your own swagger, which I have been lucky enough to do over the last 12 months, you feel less intimidated by the (SageNet Center). But you still have to respect it; otherwise, you’re going to end up in the dumpster.”

That being said, Jesse Love will now focus on recovering. Next up for the reigning O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion is the season-opener at Daytona, named the United Rentals 300. Scheduled for February 14, the 120-lap event will be televised on CW (5 pm ET onwards) with exclusive live radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
