Former F1 driver Kevin Magnussen will make his NASCAR debut with Trackhouse Racing at the Cup Series race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego on June 21, 2026. The Danish driver will be driving in the PROJECT91 Chevrolet entry with Qualcomm as the primary partner.

Rumors of Kevin Magnussen eyeing a NASCAR debut had been circling the garages for weeks. Trackhouse Racing has now confirmed that the former Haas F1 team driver will be making his NASCAR debut with them.

Kevin Magnussen began his professional racing career in single-seater open-wheel racing categories and made his way to the pinnacle of motorsports, F1. After a decade-long career in F1, where he drove for McLaren, Renault, and Haas, he was let go at the end of the 2024 season, with Oliver Bearman replacing him.

For the last couple of seasons, Magnussen has been racing in Endurance categories, including WEC (World Endurance Championship) and IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship.

Hailing the Trackhouse owner’s initiative, and getting the opportunity to make his NASCAR debut, Kevin Magnussen, via an official press release, said,

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to compete in NASCAR. What Justin Marks and Trackhouse have done with PROJECT91 is unique. To provide drivers from outside of the NASCAR world with a chance to compete at this level. I’m proud to have this opportunity.

“I’ve already spent time with the team in North Carolina – meeting everyone, doing the seat fit, going through pit stop procedures and all the details that come with preparing for a NASCAR weekend. They’re an awesome group of people, incredibly dedicated, and just as excited about this debut as I am. I really can’t wait to get to San Diego and experience it all for the first time,” the former F1 driver SAID.

Trackhouse Racing will bring back the PROJECT91 for Kevin Magnussen, an initiative launched by Justin Marks to field renowned motorsport drivers from different categories as an entry in NASCAR. F1 champion Kimi Raikkonnen drove for PROJECT91, followed by Shane van Gisbergen and Helio Castroneves.

The No. 91 Chevrolet will once again come to life. Justin Marks reacted to Kevin Magnussen making his NASCAR debut for his team, saying,

I’m thrilled to be able to bring back PROJECT91 again this year, especially at San Diego. We were waiting for the right opportunity with the right partner and driver to bring this PROJECT91 entry to fruition. Qualcomm is a worldwide brand, and Kevin Magnussen is a global driver, and both are elements we look for when it comes to running PROJECT91,” Justin Marks SAID.

Kevin Magnussen will partner with Shane van Gisbergen, Connor Zilisch and Ross Chastain to form the Trackhouse lineup for the race in San Diego.
