Legal Expert Flags Key Details in Chris Gabehart’s Response to Joe Gibbs Racing’s $8M Lawsuit: “Who Is The ‘We’?”

Chris Gabehart has fired back at Joe Gibbs Racing for filing an $8 million lawsuit accusing the former Competition Director of disclosing confidential team information to JGR’s Cup Series rival, Spire Motorsports. Gabehart’s comments surfaced through his latest post on X.

However, attorney Shannon McMinimee, who is also on X, commented on it, raising what she considered a ‘critical question’ about a pronoun Gabehart used in his message. In one of his sentences, Gabehart said ‘we’, when JGR had mentioned only Gabehart’s name in the lawsuit.

“We even offered JGR the opportunity to do a similar review of Spire’s systems,” Chris Gabehart wrote. “JGR refused that offer and filed this spiteful lawsuit instead.”

McMinimee reshared the post with the following note:

“Critical question, who is the “we” in the below? Only Chris was named in the lawsuit. Is this an indication that Spire is backing him? We shall see.”

Several fans replied to her comment, with one of them suggesting that ‘we’ must have meant Gabehart’s lawyers. But MicMinimee argued that lawyers usually don’t like to be part of ‘we’ because they are not the client.

“If it is not Spire, the logical “we” would be his wife, since community property would be subject to any damages award,” she added.

Chris Gabehart used to be the crew chief for Denny Hamlin at JGR back in the day. He and Hamlin netted 22 wins, including a pair of Daytona 500s, during their tenure at the organisation.

When Denny Hamlin was ‘Shocked’ at Major JGR Overhaul Involving Chris Gabehart

After the 2024 season, Joe Gibbs Racing promoted Chris Gabehart as the team’s competition director and hired former O’Reilly crew chief Chris Gayle to assist Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 JGR Toyota. Needless to say, Hamlin was shocked at this sudden overhaul within his crew.

“The first few days was a shock, but I’m moving on,” the driver told NASCAR. “There’s nothing I can do to change anything that happened, and JGR is doing what they feel is best for them and I totally understand that.”

Well, Chris Gabehart left JGR after an entire season of working as the team’s competition director. During that season, Hamlin earned his career’s 60th victory, which tied him with Kevin Harvick on the all-time wins list. He is now three race wins behind Kyle Busch, the current record holder for Cup Series wins among active drivers.

In the meantime, there were rumours of Gabehart and Spire Motorsports joining hands, but nothing of that sort has happened yet. Gabehart is technically a free agent for now, amid a major legal crossfire with a team he called home for the past seven years.

At NASCAR’s racing side of things, next up is the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Fans can watch the race live on FOX on September 22, starting at 3 pm ET, or listen to live radio updates on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
