Andy Roddick weighed in on Emma Raducanu’s withdrawal from the Nottingham Open following her run to the final at Queen’s Club.
Raducanu beat Anna Blinkova, Sorana Cirstea, Kamilla Rakhimova and Iva Jovic en route to the final of the HSBC Championships. She eventually lost to Donna Vekic in straight sets. After the tournament, she pulled out of Nottingham.
On his podcast, Roddick opened up about Raducanu’s decision. He said the Brit needed to start playing a heavier schedule in order to regain her best form.
“I mean, you just got to play. You got to play a ton of matches. You have to. And once you find form, you press the gas sometimes, right? Unless you’re worried about your body. I mean, she’s not 39, you know, like Novak, I say this because I’m such a fan of her game,” said Roddick.
Emma Raducanu on her loss at Queen’s Club
After losing to Donna Vekic in the final at Queen’s Club, Emma Raducanu said she was proud of her battling skills and that the week was worth celebrating.
“The performances I had this week, I played really well. I was able to play and dictate, and that’s something I wasn’t able to do in the final. I managed to get myself back into the second set, and I’m proud of how I fought. That’s not something that in the past years I’ve always done, so that’s a positive. This week is something that deserves to be celebrated,” said Emma Raducanu.
She added:
“It’s a good achievement for me and I’m proud of it. But right now, it really stings, so I’m going to let myself feel that disappointment today and then try to move on from it quickly. This week has been incredibly special.”
Before withdrawing from Nottingham, Emma Raducanu was scheduled to lock horns with Karolina Pliskova in the opening round.
