“I’m Just Going To See How I Feel”: Brad Keselowski Shares Injury Update as He Names Standby Driver For COTA

It seems like former Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski has doubts regarding his entry in his upcoming March 1 race at the Circuit of The Americas. The 95-lap event, named the DuraMax Grand Prix Powered by RelaDyne, will be televised live on FOX, starting at 3:30 pm ET.

Ahead of this year’s unofficial season opener, the Cook Out Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, Keselowski chose Corey LaJoie to fill for him, as the 42-year-old RFK Racing driver had been recovering from a broken femur suffered on a family ski trip.

Keselowski entered the 68th Daytona 500 a week later and was awarded a P5 finish for his efforts. He will enter this week’s event at EchoPark Speedway as well. But for the following week’s points race, the Cup Series veteran has decided to stay safe.

And as per reports, Brad Keselowski has chosen renowned road racer Joey Hand to be on standby in case the former needs to bail out of his No. 6 Ford Mustang. Explaining his stance during a recent interview at EchoPark Speedway, Keselowski said,

“I’m just going to see how I feel. You know, I’ve got some more stuff to test next week to get through with a medical test and a physical test. We’ll probably just see how those go, and make a decision on what’s best for me.”

That being said, Keselowski hopes to at least start the race and run the opening lap before giving his car away to his reserve driver.

“It is possible. So, we’ve kind of run through all of that. We’ve got a lot of good options,” he added.

For now, all eyes are on Sunday’s event, the Autotrader 400 at EchoPark Speedway, which was previously known as the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Fans can watch the race live on FOX, starting from 3 pm ET onwards, or listen to live radio updates on PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Brad Keselowski Makes Major Ford Announcement Involving Joey Hand

Brad Keselowski didn’t just randomly hire Joey Hand to serve as the standby driver for his RFK Racing Mustang. The good news is that Hand happens to be excellent at road courses with victories in the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, both in the GTLM class and the DP class.

Hand also has a pair of 12 Hours of Sebring victories. So much so that the 2011 ALMS GT Champion has been appointed as the Ford reserve driver for every road course event. Speaking of Hand, Keselowski said,

“We’re glad to have him. He’s the Ford reserve driver for all of the road courses. He’s won all the big races you can win across the globe, so great guy too. He’s been very helpful.”

At the NASCAR level, Hand has made eight Cup Series starts. Seven of them were with Rick Ware Racing, and one was with Keselowski’s team.
