Will Wisconsin Make March Madness? Breaking Down Badgers 2026 NCAA Tournament Chances

The Wisconsin Badgers lost their Big Ten Tournament semifinal matchup against the Michigan Wolverines. It was a hard-fought win for the Wolverines, winning the game 65-68, but they were able to eliminate the Badgers.

With that win, the Wolverines extended their winning streak to six games. The Badgers, on the other hand, suffered their 10th loss of the season. The biggest question now for them is whether they can make March Madness.

The Badgers have had a good run this season. They finished fifth in the Big Ten conference with 24 wins and 10 losses overall and 14-6 in the conference. For weeks, they’ve been constantly featured on several bracket projections.

As per The Sporting News’ final NCAA Tournament Field of 68 projections for Selection Sunday, the Badgers are in the No. 5 seed bracket alongside Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Texas Tech. They have a 24 KenPom rating.

Before losing to Michigan, the Badgers were on a five-game winning streak. With eight Quad 1 wins in the season, they have one of the strongest resumes among their rival teams. So, it’s highly likely that the Badgers will make March Madness.

Wisconsin Badgers Coach on His Team’s Development

After winning the Big Ten Tournament matchup against the Illinois Fighting Illini 91-88, head coach Greg Gard reflected on the progress his team has made since November. Gard shared the credit with his team for recognizing the areas they needed to get better at.

“There were things on the court, but there were probably as many things in our physical and mental makeup that we had to improve upon and grow through, and they’ve done that. It’s been a joy to watch them come together, the chemistry, the connectivity,” he said.

As per Gard, the team is relatively new, and that’s why it took them some time to get on track and function like a complete unit on the floor. He stated that seven of the top nine players are new to the program.

“Like I said, it’s just a credit to them for taking coaching, embracing the fact that we had to get better, and they took ownership in it. The results speak for themselves. They’ve done it. They answered the challenge,” Gard said.

Gard heaped praise on his players for following the instructions and always being willing to learn more. That eagerness has turned the Wisconsin Badgers into one of the best teams this season.
