Jeremy Fears Jr.’s Antics Evoke Clear Message From Tom Izzo In Fiery Post Game Conference

During their regular season finale vs. the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans star Jeremy Fears Jr. got into trouble again. The point guard, who has gotten in trouble before, had an unnecessary contact with the groin area of Michigan‘s Elliot Cadeau, resulting in him getting called for a technical foul.

Jeremy Fears Jr.’s right leg reportedly kicked Cadeau’s groin after the guard was knocked off balance, and this was seen as Fears retaliating. Despite this, Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo stood by his star playmaker, saying that Fears did not do anything wrong as the kick was not intentional.

“I’m not talking about that. You know what, I don’t think he did anything on purpose,” he told reporters. “I think it was a reaction. I don’t know the whole deal about it. It was a critical play, as they all are. But I thought Jeremy Fears played his ass off 99% of that game. And you know what, I did what I was going to do, I chewed him out for it. But I watched it on tape and the guy’s pushing him in back, and sometimes that stuff happens, you know.”

Referees assessed the kick to be a contact dead-ball technical foul after an official review. The Michigan State side believes that Fears just raised his leg as he was knocked off balance and did not mean to do it.

Izzo added that he himself is tough on Spears, and even he will say that he has done a good job for him so far and was not at fault during that situation.

Technical Foul Only Motivated Jeremy Fears Jr.

After getting that technical foul, Jeremy Fears Jr. actually exploded as he dropped 22 points against the Wolverines and was 10-of-12 from the charity stripe. He also had a team-high nine assists as his No. 8 Michigan State gave the favorite Michigan Wolverines a fight.

It was back-and-forth as the teams exchanged leads several times, with Fears even hitting a crucial jumper that cut Michigan’s lead late in the fourth. However, after a timeout, the Wolverines pulled away, and his efforts were not enough as Michigan ultimately won at home, 90-80. The Wolverines are now entering the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed, while their state rivals, the Spartans, are the No. 3 seed.
