The Wisconsin Badgers have witnessed notable departures this offseason because of eligibility, the NBA draft, and the transfer portal. Under head coach Greg Gard, the program unexpectedly suffered a first-round defeat against High Point in the NCAA Tournament.
Gard is retooling the roster and has almost finalized the lineup after adding a third player through the transfer portal. Let’s take a look at all the players joining and leaving in the portal.
Wisconsin Basketball Transfer Portal
Greg Gard lost four players to the transfer portal but have replenished the team by adding three players in the transfer portal.
Players Joining
Eian Elmer
The biggest portal boost came after the Badgers signed Elmer, who leaves Miami (Ohio) after three years. He was part of the historic RedHawks team were unbeaten in the regular season. The 6-foot-7 wing averaged 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
Elmer posted 30-plus points twice and had 20-plus on six separate occasions. He drilled 72 threes and posted a 42.9% clip from deep, both team highs.
“We are really excited to add another excellent addition to our spring signees,” Gard said. “Eian brings a wealth of experience and scoring punch as a 6-7 wing. He played on one of the country’s most successful teams at Miami (Ohio) that won 32 games.”
“A terrific shooter, his skillset and production fit excellently into our plan as we build out next year’s team,” Gard said. “Throughout our evaluation process our staff loved his size, power and skill and truly believe he will thrive in our system.”
Victory Onuetu
Onuetu comes to Madison after spending the last season with the Hofstra Pride, appearing in all 35 games. He averaged 4.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He led the program with 91 offensive rebounds and was second on the team with 36 blocked shots.
Trey Autry
The 6-foot-3 junior guard from Hudson is leaving the George Washington Colonials to join Wisconsin.
Players Leaving
Aleksas Bieliauskas
After a promising freshman season with Wisconsin, Bieliauskas has entered the transfer portal, becoming the fourth and latest Badger to do so. He made 28 starts as true freshman, averaging 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, shooting 43% from the field, including 34.6% from the 3-point range.
John Blackwell
The biggest surprise and shock transfer portal announcement came from Robison, who has also declared for the NBA draft. Blackwell averaged a career-high 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting just below 39% from 3-point range last season.
Blackwell will play his senior season elsewhere after making leaps as a player with the Badgers.
“I’m looking for a place where I can enhance my skills for the NBA and a place where I can compete for a national championship,” Blackwell said. “A place where that’s the standard and what we’re striving for.”
Jack Robison
Robison is heading to North Dakota State with two years of eligibility remaining. He averaged just 1.8 minutes per game last season.
Riccardo Greppi
Near the end of last month, Greppi announced his plans to enter the transfer portal. Over the last two years, Greppi appeared as a reserve forward in 22 games, accumulating eight points, 15 rebounds, three assists and one block across 40 minutes.
