Mark Sears, the star point guard for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has created much buzz with his college football career. With his recent decision to return for his final season, fans have much to see of him. But behind this All-American athlete stand two proud parents, Chad and Lameka Sears. Let’s look at their support and unique stories that have shaped the star we see today.

From Muscle Shoals to March Madness: Mark Sears’ Family Legacy
Mark grew up in Alabama, first in Florence before settling in Muscle Shoals, where his basketball journey began. His parents, Chad and Lameka, have been constants in his life. Chad, a former football standout, brings the athleticism to his DNA. After shining as an All-State quarterback at Russellville High, he earned a scholarship to UNA.
There, he played center and helped secure three straight national titles from 1993 to 1995. His pro dreams took him to the Buffalo Bills in 2002, but a back injury cut his career short. He cheers for his son, whose record-breaking 797 points last season made Alabama history.
Lameka, Mark’s mother, is no less impressive. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Athens State University. Today, she works as a retail account executive for the Times Daily. But her real spotlight comes during Mark’s games.
At the 2025 NCAA Tournament in Spokane, TBS cameras caught her mimicking Mark’s free throw routine. “If he’s on the line, I’m on the line,” she told Tuscaloosa News in March. She’s been doing it since his rec league days.
Lameka even brought a shiny prop basketball to the games against Charleston and Grand Canyon, stealing the show as Mark dropped 30 points in the first-round win.
Both Chad and Lameka are American nationals, rooted in Alabama’s soil. Their influence shines through Mark’s journey, from his Ohio Bobcats debut in 2021-22 to leading Alabama to its first Final Four in 2023.
As of March 2025, he’s averaging 19.1 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds this season. His efficiency, 50.9% shooting, and 43.3% from three have him back as a Bob Cousy Award finalist.
