Danny Sprinkle’s Washington Huskies have had a rough run over the last few years. The program, still searching for its first national title, has missed out on making an NCAA Tournament appearance since 2019.
Their last appearance in 2019 came after a seven-year-long wait, and once again, they’ve gone seven years without being a national title contender. The Huskies have tried almost everything to change that, including coaching changes.
They brought in Danny Sprinkle from the Utah State Aggies in 2024. Sprinkle took the Aggies to the Round of 32 in his only season with the program. The Huskies were hoping he would do the same for them.
So far, he hasn’t been able to accomplish that, finishing his two seasons with losing records, 13-18 and 16-17. Sprinkle has signed and retained some good players this offseason, positioning his team for a better run.
The latest addition to the Huskies is Brazilian forward Wini Braga. He is 21 years old and has played professional basketball in Brazil. Braga’s game and pro experience will help the Huskies, and his 6’9 presence on the court will give them an advantage.
In 42 games with Minas of Novo Basquete Brasil this season, Braga is averaging 10.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 19.7 minutes per outing. He shoots over 51% from the field and 30% from the three-point line.
The Huskies roster now has 11 players, including new signings and returning players. Wesley Yates III, Jasir Rencher, Brandon Roy Jr., Parker Friedrichsen, Ryan Beasley, LeJuan Watts, and others will take charge of the Washington Huskies next season.
There’s still some space for other players on the Washington roster, and they will likely bring in a few more players to fill the roster.
Danny Sprinkle Might be On a Hot Seat
There’s no denying that the Washington roster looks impressive on paper right now. With the possible addition of a few more players, they will be expected to make a deep and dominant run next season.
That pressure might create more problems for Sprinkle, who hasn’t been able to deliver for the program. Before Washington, he had head coaching stints with the Montana State Bobcats and the Utah State Aggies. Both teams made NCAA Tournament appearances under his leadership.
Sprinkle has already spent two years with the Huskies and holds an overall losing record of 29-35, including 11-29 in the conference. The next season could be the deal breaker for the 49-year-old head coach.
