As UNC coach Mike Malone is well aware, the transfer portal season is as dangerous as any other season. Teams can rise and fall at the drop of a hat, and interest in the team can spike and plummet.
Interest in the team is poised to jump after Malone secured a top-25 overall recruit to bolster the team, which could help him lure transfers and additional talent. Maximo Adams “will remain committed to North Carolina,” he told Rivals via a Saturday report by On3’s Joe Tipton.
“NEWS: 2026 Top-25 overall recruit Maximo Adams will remain committed to North Carolina following the hiring of Michael Malone, he told Rivals,” Tipton posted.
According to 247 Sports, the recruit had 31 offers and received six visits. He did not receive a coach visit, but the presence of Malone was enough to get a commitment from Adams.
Adams, a 6-7 shooting forward with a weight of 205 pounds, is set to leave his hometown of Chatsworth, California, and barring a massive change, will cross the country to join Malone on the East Coast.
Mike Malone Juggles New Addition Amid Departing Veterans
While the addition of the prospect is good news for Mike Malone, the coach is working hard to fill expected roster spot vacancies opened up by players entering the transfer portal or expected to enter it in the near future.
According to a Tuesday On3 report, point guard Kyan Evans has entered the portal. In addition to Evans, six additional players are expected to formally enter the transfer portal.
