Dan Hurley and UConn are coming off another successful season. The Huskies reached the NCAA final for the third time in four years. They won back-to-back national championships in 2023 and 2024. They had a lull for one season when they got eliminated from the second round of the NCAA tournament vs eventual winners Florida.
But last season, they were right back where they belonged. They played the NCAA final vs Dusty May’s Michigan. Unfortunately for Dan Hurley and the Huskies, the Michigan Wolverines emerged victorious. Nobody really rated Hurley’s team that high last season. They had a decent lineup of experience and versatility, but they were missing pure scorers. And after some vital players left the team, the Huskies were in for a revamp.
One of the most important transfers for Dan Hurley’s system was Jacksonville State’s Jaye Nash. Hurley might rely on his ball handling as well as his intensity on the floor. He was known for his work rate and might just give the Huskies the right energy. Nash recently talked how he landed in UConn and how his first few interactions with Dan Hurley went.
“I mean, off the court, he likes to joke around a lot. I haven’t really gotten an interaction with him on the court, but off the court, he’s a little, he likes to joke around, a little goofy. But that’s it. I’m curious to see how he is, though, for the first practice and everything. I’m ready for it, though,” Nash said about Dan Hurley at 3:37.
He also continued to talk about what he had seen in the past four years. “I mean, it’s just crazy. They won two out of the last four national championships, been to three out of the last four. So, I mean, I don’t know. He obviously knows what he’s doing; the craziness just comes with it, but he knows what he’s doing for sure,” he added.
Dan Hurley and UConn’s busy offseason
Dan Hurley’s other key transfers this season, apart from Jaye Nash, include an immediate starter from Duke, Nikolas Khamenia, center Najai Hines of Seton Hall, Oskar Giltay from Seton Hall, Wofford veteran guard Nils Machaowski, and Isaiah Shaw from Northern Arizona.
The Huskies also have two freshmen coming in. Colben Landrew, a highly reputed guard, committed to Dan Hurley’s team. Junior County was the second freshman to join the Huskies. He is being considered to become a quality backup point guard.
