UConn Buzzer Beater: Inside Huskies’ Chaotic Reaction to Braylon Mullins’ Heroics

Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies atoned for a disappointing regular season, losing the regular season and tournament Big East titles, by beating the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday to reach the Final Four.

They almost didn’t achieve it, as the game was won with a last-second three-pointer by Braylon Mullins, which turned out to be the most thrilling moment of March Madness so far this year.

The game finished 73-72 in favor of Duke, thanks to Mullins’ last-minute heroics. The moment created unique shots of disbelief at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Speaking recently with 247Sports, Alex Karaban was asked which of his favorite reactions to Mullins’s shot, and he had this to say:

“I love the bench running around… Braylon (Mullins) with the iconic hands up in the air. Mrs. Hurley actually had a really funny reaction… She was in disbelief… Bill Raftery, the announcer, that one actually… He was in such shock that has definetely to be my favorite one”

Dan Hurley’s After-Game Reaction to Braylon Mullins Winning Shot Against Duke

Dan Hurley himself shared his disbelief with the press shortly after the victory over the No. 1 team in the nation. Speaking on the court, he had this to say about Mullins:

“Yeah, you know what? You’re just kind of watching the flight of the ball, you’re just kind of tracking it. I knew it was a deep shot. I didn’t realize how far away he was until I watched the replay of it. It was kind of tracking online, and Braylon’s such a special shooter that, that’s what March Madness is all about, moments like that, players making plays and shots like that.”

“He’s an incredible shooter of the ball. He was playing a great game, but he wasn’t having a great 3-point shooting game, and it was the perfect situation where, you know, he got the ball in rhythm from a distance that was right at the edge of his range as a shooter, and he had no time to think about it. He was able to just kind of let it go, and Alex Karaban made a great play just to make that pass to him so he could get one off in rhythm,” he added.

Despite the regular season mediocre performance, Hurley’s Huskies are now headed to the Final Four on Saturday, where they will play the Illinois Fighting Illini for a chance to play in the national championship game.
