After a 15-17 season that saw LSU dead last in the SEC, coach Matt McMahon’s head was placed on the chopping block, and he was replaced by NC State head coach Will Wade. Reports indicating how much Wade’s roster budget will be once he transfers back to LSU have surfaced.
Nakos has reported that Wade will be given a budget of upwards of $12 million when he gets to LSU. This comes after Wade himself denied rumors that he was going back to LSU after the Wolfpack were defeated by Texas during the First Four last week.
Will Wade previously served as the head coach of LSU for five seasons. However, after allegations of some recruiting violations came to light, the school fired him after he was heard giving a massive offer to a recruit in 2017. He then went to McNeese and led the team to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances before leaving again to coach the NC State Wolfpack.
As for Matt McMahon, he has been fired after a 9-9 record, the worst in the SEC. He had been a very successful coach when he was at Murray State, even producing NBA All-Star Ja Morant, but he could not replicate that success over at LSU, which just had one of its worst basketball seasons in history.
How Much Will Matt McMahon’s Buyout Be After He Got Fired?
With Matt McMahon reportedly on the way out, it should be noted that he still has three years in his contract with LSU. This means that the school will have to pay his buyout package when they fire him.
His buyout is estimated at approximately $8 million. In addition, the school will also have to pay NC State $5 million for Will Wade’s buyout after he leaves to go back to Baton Rouge, so the school will be paying for two buyouts at the same time should this happen.
