With a new coach, Gary McNamara, the Syracuse Orange are rebuilding and have been busier than most teams in the transfer portal. A lot of players have left, while McNamara himself has been busy since arriving in New York, signing players from the transfer portal.
The biggest holes were caused by the departures of forwards, but several guards also left the program. However, McNamara did manage to retain Kiyan Anthony, son of Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony.
Here’s a look at the players who have left or joined Syracuse:

Sophomore power forward Donnie Freeman, who has an NIL value of $1.6 million and is rated a five-star transfer by On3 (Rivals), is undoubtedly the biggest transfer portal loss, along with four-star small forward Tyler Betsey, who has reportedly committed to BYU. Junior shooting guard Nait George, an unstarred transfer, was a veteran presence for the Orange but has transferred to Pittsburgh.
Another big loss is Tiefing Diawara from Mali. The seven-foot center still needed some work but was slowly proving to be a presence in the paint. They also lost Guinean sophomore power forward and center Ibrahim Souare, who did not play much last season and is looking for a place to shine.
However, McNamara made up for those frontcourt losses by bringing in a couple of players from his old school, Siena: Gavin Doty, a sophomore small forward, and Tasman Goodrick, a junior power forward. The two followed their coach to New York after they nearly upset No. 1 Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
McNamara also managed to snag sophomore shooting guard Aiden Tobiason from Temple and probably one of his best transfer portal signings so far, junior combo guard Garwey Dual from McNeese State.
