The St. John’s Red Storm are currently considered one of the best teams in college basketball right now and are looking good so far, especially with only two games remaining on the regular season calendar. Rick Pitino’s squad are currently No. 18 in the country and are No. 2 in the Big East, second only to the UConn Huskies. The question is, will they be able to make it to March Madness?
While they have slid down from No. 15 to No. 18, the Red Storm are still considered one of the best, and they only have two games left to prove they belong in the annual tournament. That being said, even if they lose those last two games, which will be against Georgetown and Seton Hall, they would likely still make it but will have a much lower seed.
Their final two games will be against good teams, but not teams that Rick Pitino’s crew would have trouble dealing with. They would also probably win against Georgetown and Seton Hall, which might even give them a better seeding coming into the national championship tournament.
The last time the Red Storm have lost in late February was when they were demolished by the No. 4 UConn Huskies, 72-40 in a statement win. But they have since bounced back thanks to a one-sided demolition against Villanova. They currently have a 23-6 record and should they continue winning, St. John’s will be a favorite coming into the NCAA tournament.
What Will St. John’s Seed Going To Be During March Madness?
As a Top 25 team, St. John’s will most likely be seeded high in the tournament, though which region they will play in is still up to debate as plenty could still happen from now until Selection Sunday. While that loss to UConn pulled them down three spots, the Red Storm remain a contender coming into the tournament.
As for their seeding, USA Today has Rick Pitino’s squad as one of the four No. 5 seeds, along with Tennessee, Arkansas and Vanderbilt. Still, the Red Storm could improve on that seeding if they get convincing wins over their last two opponents, but expect that seed to go down should they lose even one.
