Rick Pitino is still recovering from the 32-point beatdown at the hands of the UConn Huskies, which makes it the biggest loss since taking over St. John’s. He has since taken the blame for that loss, though fans are still talking about that white suit of his despite the alarm bells ringing all over.
Their next game will be against Villanova, and it will be a “white-out” game where fans wear all white. This had many asking if Rick Pitino would wear that iconic look again, but the coach has remained coy and said that he is not wearing it after such an embarrassing loss. However, he did admit that he will, but on one condition:
“I went out to a special tailor for the first time in my life, I said this could be one of my last white suits if I finish coaching this year, which isn’t true. There’s no way I’m wearing a white suit after that loss, unless I have a couple of wines tonight, it’s not happening.”
The coach added that he just wasted a lot of money on it and that he just bought it after eight friends of his all bought white suits for themselves.
St. John’s Red Storm Players Urge Rick Pitino To Don White Suit vs. Villanova
It is not just fans who are urging Rick Pitino to don that white suit again, but also his own players, as Oziyah Sellers and Dillon Mitchell both said they want him to go all-white again.
“It looks clean on him,” Oziyah Sellers said
, “Then he got to put the white suit on,” Dillon Mitchell said after learning St. John’s is undefeated when his coach wears the white suit.
The game will be an important one against Villanova, as both St. John’s and Villanova are jockeying for the No. 2 spot in the Big East, and a win would have the Red Storm pull away from the Wildcats.
