St. John’s were boosted by the decision of Tounde Yessoufou to withdraw from the NBA Draft on withdrawal deadline day, and it appears that the Red Storm have now decided that it’s all they really need amid a final grab for some top returning college players.
One such player is Milan Momcilovic, who was heavily touted to be picked in the NBA Draft, but has decided to withdraw before the end of the deadline, and will now return to college.
The Iowa State transfer was instrumental for his college team last season, and is yet to decide his school upon returning to college, but with reports suggesting he could demand in the range of $4-6 Million, it leaves just a handful of colleges ready to pursue the big man.
And now we know that St. John’s won’t be one of those programs, as top journalist Adam Zagoria has confirmed via his sources that Rick Pitino and co have got their man in Tounde Yessoufou and won’t be pursuing a move for Momcilovic anymore.
Zagoria took to X to write – “St. John’s will no longer pursue Milan Momcilovic, per sources,” confirming that Momcilovic has one less suitor as he aims to make his decision soon, with Zagoria himself claiming that the decision should be made as early as this weekend.
“I’m told Milan Momcilovic will most likely decide his next landing spot over the weekend sometime,” Zagoria had tweeted once it became clear that the former Iowa State man was withdrawing from the NBA Draft.
Where Will Momcilovic End Up?
With St. John’s now out of the running, the million dollar question that remains is where Momcilovic ends up, and while we don’t know for sure, it appears that two colleges are in prime position to secure his services.
Kentucky and Louisville will likely be fighting it out as they both seem to possess the financial might to pay a significant sum for the player. Mark Pope needs a big name signing to redeem himself, while Pat Kelsey would want one final piece to complete an expensive jigsaw he’s put together in the transfer portal.
