Will Jeremy Fears Jr. Withdraw From the NBA Draft? Latest Buzz Surrounding Michigan State Star

Jeremy Fears Jr. is turning the page toward the next stage of his career at some point. However, many believe that moment is sooner rather than later. Of course, speculation and widespread belief are not enough to force him one way or the other. Fears will have to answer the question of whether he believes he is ready for himself.

Still, one source close to the college basketball star, coach Tom Izzo, has given the clearest look at what could happen for the star. According to SpartanMag in a May 9 report, Fears’ coach has braced for a return.

“He’s been really upfront, really good about it,” Izzo said. “I think we’re in a good spot.”

As the coach of the Michigan State Spartans, he said, “we’re in good spot,” indicating he was referring to himself and the Spartans. If Fears were to leave, it would leave them in a “bad spot” without the star. As such, with Izzo as close to the situation as anyone, the odds appear high for a return.

Assessing Why Jeremy Fears Jr. Would Return

Of course, at this point, college stars are holding out longer to join the professional league than ever before. However, Jeremy Fears Jr. hasn’t gotten this far by chasing trends. From a practicality standpoint, the college basketball star still has something to prove in college. Fears’ 2025-26 performance was impressive, but it was his only breakout season.

With one more year to prove 2025-26 wasn’t a fluke and the chance to prove he can handle success, Fears could improve his draft stock, and thus improve his chances at a long run in the NBA.

As it stands, Fears would have little problem getting a toe in the NBA at this point, but the trouble would be staying around with plenty of players coming off one-year wonders similar to Fears’ 15.2 points per game last season.
