Is Jeremy Fears Jr. Declaring for the NBA Draft? Know More About Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Star’s Future Decision

After missing most of the season due to injury in his freshman year, Jeremy Fears Jr. made a strong comeback and solidified his place in Tom Izzo’s Michigan State. However, they might need to prepare for a team without Fears. The guard has declared for the NBA Draft, while still having his college eligibility.

“After speaking with my family, coaches, and representatives, I’m excited to announce that I will be declaring for the 2026 NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility. This is an important step in my journey, and I’m looking forward to learning, growing, and competing against the best as I continue to develop my game,” Fears posted on his Instagram account.

“I’m grateful for Coach Izzo, the Michigan State staff, my teammates, and my family for their continued support and belief in me,” he added.

Jeremy Fears Jr. has been one of the main players for Tom Izzo at Michigan. The 5-star recruit committed to the State Spartans in 2023, choosing them over Brad Underwood’s Illinois. In the three years with the team, he has turned out to be a trusted player for Izzo.

He has averaged 10 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in his college career so far. However, this season those averages went up a notch: 15.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 9.4 assists in 35 games. He has started every game in the last two seasons.

Is Jeremy Fears Jr. returning to Michigan State Spartans for his junior year?

David Harns of Spartans Illustrated reported that Jeremy Fears Jr. is “firmly committed” to returning to Michigan despite making himself available for the NBA Draft. A small wave of worry that might have hit the Spartans has rolled back.

Fears was an All-American this season and also broke the record for single-season assists in Michigan State history. After leading the Spartans to a 27-8 record and nearly missing out on the Big Ten assists record, it was obviously a worry for Tom Izzo and company.

It would have been very difficult to replace the impact of a player like Fears. Luckily for Izzo, he might have to think about that next season.
