Jordan Butler has announced that he plans to leave Columbia, South Carolina, via the transfer portal this offseason. Butler has been with the South Carolina Gamecocks since 2024, after spending his freshman season with the Missouri Tigers in 2023-24. While he started for half a season at Mizzou, he never truly became a starter at South Carolina.

South Carolina Coach Lamont Paris on Jordan Butler Ahead of the 2025-26 Season
Speaking about what he expected from Jordan Butler and Cam Scott ahead of the 2025-2026 season, South Carolina coach Lamont Paris said the following on his expectations for them:
“These are two guys that are still learning,” Paris said. “Learning how to impact a basketball game positively at this level. Everyone learns at a different rate. You can’t force the learning to happen any faster. When the training wheels came off when I was a little guy, I’m sure my parents probably thought it would happen a lot earlier.”
“You can’t make it happen because you try to force it. Just allowing these guys to be in situations to learn and learn what competing looks like and to learn what defending at this level looks like for a team that’s gonna win a lot of games.”
It seems that despite the expectations not being so high, Jordan Butler didn’t make the advancements necessary to get a final season as a starter with the Gamecocks.
It’s difficult to see which school will take him after having spent two seasons on the bench at Columbia. He’s a former four-star who was considered the 18th-best center in the class of 2023. He was the second-best prospect out of the state of South Carolina and the 126th best in the nation.
In the 2025-26 season, he only averaged 2.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and a measly 0.2 assists per game.
