After falling just short of becoming a national champion this past season, Silas Demary Jr. has made a decision on his future with the UConn Huskies. Demary has opted to return to UConn for his final season in college basketball.
Demary was one of the Huskies’ key players in their run to the national championship game, where they lost to the Michigan Wolverines. This past season, he averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He led the Big East conference with 6.0 assists per game and had a team-high 62 steals.
Demary took to Instagram and wrote:
“let’s run it back.”
He shared highlights from the 2025-26 season and his intentions for next season.
After the All-Big East First Team member decided to return, his father, Silas Demary Sr., shared this excitement for the final season in Storrs.

Demary Sr. is a former professional football player who played in the Arena Football League. He won Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. Before his eight-year professional career, he played college football at Virginia State.
Silas Demary Jr.’s Return Could Only Mean Good Things for UConn
Silas Demary Jr.’s decision could supplant in multiple more returning key players. With Demary’s decision, the spotlight falls on Braylon Mullins, Solo Ball, Jaylin Stewart and more, who have to decide whether they want to enter the transfer portal, stay back or declare for the NBA draft.
Before Demary, UConn already received the decision of rising senior Jayden Ross staying back. However, the program will lose centers Eric Reibe and Rrezon Elezaj to the portal. Since they have not yet picked their next destination, there’s a slim possibility of returning to UConn.
After transferring from Georgia before last year’s run to the national title game, Demary averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in his first year with the Huskies. In the 2026 NCAA Tournament, Demary struggled because of an ankle sprain, keeping him out of the opening round win against Furman.
Though Demary is returning, the Huskies will need another point guard since Malachi Smith has exhausted his eligibility.
