The Kentucky Wildcats, coached by Mark Pope, have not exactly gotten the commitment of a potential new player despite being considered the top option for him.
On Sunday, college basketball analyst Jeff Goodman shared a post on X/Twitter, wherein he reposted a previous report he made on BYU Cougars guard Robert Wright III and his plans for the future.
According to Goodman, Wright narrowed down his offseason decision to two options: either join the Wildcats or stay put with coach Kevin Young’s team. Goodman also noted that a lot of factors can still change in the era of NIL and opportunities, meaning Wright can expand his options once again.
For now, though, it seems he will either end up in a Kentucky jersey or play out another year with the Cougars.
Wright is coming off his first and potentially only year at BYU, second overall, in the 2025-26 campaign. The Wilmington, Delaware, native spent his first college basketball tenure with coach Scott Drew’s Baylor Bears before moving on to the Cougars. In the recently concluded season, Wright helped the Cougars to an overall record of 23-12 (9-9 Big 12) and made it to the first round of the March Madness.
If he does join the Kentucky-based program, he will join a team that finished the 2025-26 season with an overall record of 22-14 (10-8 SEC) and reached the second round of the national tournament.
Robert Wright III Will Visit The Kentucky Wildcats Campus The Day After Jeff Goodman’s Reports
In another post by Jeff Goodman on his X/Twitter, it was confirmed that Robert Wright III will be heading over to Lexington, Kentucky, to visit coach Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats’ campus on Monday, April 13.
Goodman believes the Kentucky-based program, and not the BYU Cougars, is the frontrunner to land Wright for the 2026-27 campaign.
