Why Is Shaheen Holloway Wearing a Mask During UConn Game? Seton Hall Coach’s Courtside Look Sparks Speculation

Shaheen Holloway’s Seton Hall Pirates are playing the UConn Huskies at Gampel Pavilion tonight. The Huskies, with 16 wins and two losses in the conference, are at the top of the Big East chart. They have won 26 games overall.

The Pirates, on the other hand, are fourth in the Big East with a 9-8 conference record and 19-9 overall. At halftime, the Seton Hall Pirates have a one-point lead over the UConn Huskies, with a 33-32 score.

When the game started, fans noticed that the Pirates’ head coach, Shaheen Holloway, was wearing a face mask. There was a lot of confusion around his choice, and some even wondered if Holloway was sick.

“Why the hell is Shaheen Holloway coaching with a mask on in 2026?” a fan wrote on X.

“Just checked in on the UConn-Seton Hall game. Why is Shaheen Holloway wearing a mask?” another fan asked the same question.

Before the confusion could turn into conspiracy theories, insider Adam Zagoria took to X to explain why Holloway had a face mask on during the game.

“Shaheen Holloway has the flu and is coaching against UConn with a mask on,” he wrote.

This is a very important game for the Pirates, and even though Holloway could’ve taken the day off to nurse himself back to health, he’s committed to the program’s journey this season. It shows how dedicated he is to his team.

Holloway is also ensuring that his dedication doesn’t harm anyone, so he’s being cautious by wearing a mask. Some fans are trolling him for the same, but those comments aren’t supposed to be taken seriously.

Dan Hurley Took Shots at St John’s Fans

Before Seton Hall, the UConn Huskies played the St John’s Red Storm at home. Coming off a win against Villanova, Dan Hurley’s team dominated the game from the beginning, taking a 41-26 lead in the first half.

They finished the game 72-40, showing complete dominance on both ends. After the game, Hurley had some words for St John’s fans.

“Obviously, we expect to see them potentially a third time,” he said. “But I do want to move that Big East Tournament somewhere else because I do think St. John’s has too big of an advantage playing the Big East Tournament at MSG, now that their fan base is, like, woke up and packs that place. I’d like to move it to the Prudential Center.”

Hurley added that he said it “tongue in cheek” and didn’t intend for it to be taken seriously.
