North Carolina’s Seth Trimble is attempting to become a professional basketball player. Trimble, who was with the Tar Heels for four seasons, entered the transfer portal in late April hoping the NCAA would pass a new rule granting seniors a fifth year of eligibility.
At the same time, he’s doing his utmost to get selected in the 2026 NBA Draft, although he faces an uphill battle as he isn’t considered a top prospect for this year’s event. He earned a bit of a respite through an invitation to the G League Draft Combine, which could open the door to an invite to the NBA Draft Combine.
On Saturday, he impressed scouts with a 43.5” max vertical jump, according to Maxwell Baumbach of No Ceilings NBA. Trimble has one more day to try and earn an invite for the NBA Draft Combine, with the G League Draft Combine ending on Sunday.
Why did Seth Trimble decide to enter the transfer portal despite being a senior?
Seth Trimble will be the first to tell you that the NBA is his priority. However, with the possibility of the NCAA changing eligibility rules once more, he and his agent thought that entering the transfer portal was also the best course for him to take when considering his future. It just leaves more options open for Trimble.
Here’s what he said to the press in April about it:
“I’m full focused on the NBA process right now, but definitely would consider that if that becomes a reality,” Trimble said. “Carolina is always home, so (I) would absolutely consider that.”
“My agent and I thought it was the safest thing to do, hence why a bunch of other seniors are starting to and about to do the same,” Trimble added
He jumped into the transfer portal with a do-not-contact tag in April, an action mainly aimed at preventing him from being distracted from the NBA process by incessant recruitment pitches from other programs. Seth Trimble also made it a point to highlight that Chapel Hill will forever be his college basketball home, and he seems somewhat against the idea of moving to another program if he can avoid it.
