Nik Khamenia’s freshman year is over, which means the preparations for his sophomore year have already begun. According to a Wednesday report by Bleacher Report, the guard is set to be one-and-done at Duke.
With his time at Duke apparently at an end, what’s next for the incoming sophomore? Here’s a look at some of the best logical options.
Top 3 Landing Spots for Nik Khamenia
#3 – UConn Huskies
The UConn Huskies, under the tutelage of Dan Hurley, have been about as reliable as any team in the NCAA in recent years. As such, it could be the safest place to get easy access to a spotlight over the next few years.
Of course, the competition to start for Hurley is likely to be fierce. Still, who dares, wins, and Nik Khamenia might be willing to dare.
#2 – North Carolina Tar Heels
If UConn is a bit too intimidating for the guard, he could have a great shot at a successful few years with the North Carolina Tar Heels. While Bill Belichick has not made the football team a desired landing spot, the team’s appearance in March Madness has given it a level of respect that Nik Khamenia could catch by association.
The Tar Heels still have room to grow with the 84th-best offense in the country, and if Khamenia can pop offensively, it could help send the unit over the top.
#1 – Virginia Cavaliers
The Virginia Cavaliers are somewhat local to Nik Khamenia and entered March Madness as the third-ranked team. As such, the team could be one player away from a deep run. If Khamenia can be that player, he would shoot his draft stock up through the roof in what could be a championship run in the next few years.
Either way, can get a lot of playing time at some point in a deep run on a local team. It’s hard to find more reasons than that in a situation like the one he currently faces.
