The NC State Wolfpack had a weird end to their season, with Will Wade leaving Raleigh after just one season in charge of the basketball program. This means that the rebuild of the Wolfpack was supposed to start last season, and will have to basically restart this offseason.
In his stead, NC State has given former Tennessee assistant head coach Justin Gainey the chance at his first head coaching gig. His mind will have to immediately turn to the transfer portal, which opened Tuesday.
Several players have announced their decision to leave NC State this offseason, while Gainey is also losing several departing seniors. So far, the team hasn’t had much in the way of incoming players, beyond a couple of high school recruits.
Here’s the full list of players currently expected to leave Raleigh, North Carolina.

Justin Gainey’s Farewell Message to Tennessee Fans
A few days ago, Justin Gainey went on his Instagram account to show his appreciation for the University of Tennessee and his time there. He made it clear that, even if he was leaving, he would forever be a Volunteer:
“It’s hard to put into words what University of Tennessee has meant to me and my family. This place, these people, and this program have had a lasting impact on my life—both professionally and personally.”
“I am excited for the opportunity to lead the program at NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball. I look forward to this next chapter, but I will always carry a deep appreciation and respect for Tennessee.”
Regardless of how much he loves Tennessee, it’s completely understandable that a veteran coach like him would jump at the chance of having his first-ever head coaching gig at the college level.
