Kentucky Basketball Season Preview: Where Does Milan Momcilovic Transfer Leave Mark Pope’s Wildcats?

Milan Momcilovic’s future appears to be set, with Momcilovic joining Kentucky Basketball. Mark Pope won the sweepstakes, but now has to win with the star center from ISU. His addition completes a roster that already had solid pieces, but needed just one more to make a serious run.

The news was reported on social media on Monday by Joe Tipton and On3, leaving Kentucky fans in a better mood.

Here’s a look at how Momcilovic fits on the roster and a look ahead at how his addition will impact the biggest games on the upcoming schedule.

With Momcilovic on the team, the Wildcats have created a trio consisting of the center, Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen. Oweh will likely lead the team in scoring once again, but when he’s on the perimeter, Momcilovic will be available underneath. Teams will have to pick their poison, and if both are covered on occasion, either can kick it to Aberdeen, who will have no problem finishing the job.

Momcilovic’s size and ability to score with 16.9 points per game in 2025 will come in handy for the Wildcats and will change the team’s season outlook for the better.

    Milan Momcilovic’s Biggest Games

Here’s a look at some of the biggest games on the upcoming schedule in which Milan Momcilovic could be the difference.

Not every game on the team’s schedule has been revealed, but according to team media, the Kansas Jayhawks will await the team for the State Farm Champions Classic on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The Jayhawks went 24-11 in 2025 and have made it to March Madness in each of the last six seasons, including a championship in 2021. Kentucky will be tested and could face the team again in March.

The Virginia Cavaliers will face Kentucky on Wednesday, Dec. 2, and could push the team to the limit. The team made the March Madness cut in three of the last four years and went 30-6 in 2025, so they will be perhaps the toughest out. The game could be a playoff preview.

The Louisville Cardinals will face Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Rupp Arena in Lexington, and give the team a huge test with two March Madness appearances in the last two years and a 51-19 record over the last two seasons. The Cardinals and Wildcats could face off again.
