Mark Pope has been busy revamping the Kentucky Wildcats roster for the upcoming season. One of his biggest acquisitions is former Iowa State star Milan Momcilovic. The forward withdrew from the draft and decided to continue his collegiate career in Lexington.
While making these important offseason decisions, Pope also enjoyed some time off with his family. A photo of him circulated on social media, and fans felt he looked tired.
“Mark Pope was definitely losing sleep over Milan Momcilovic during his trip to Costa Rica. Thanks for getting it done, coach!” Casey of Bleed blue network wrote in the caption.
Others also chimed in, sharing their reactions to Pope’s look.
“I hope the dude gets it done. So rooting for it to succeed. Such a good guy,” one fan wrote.
“Is it me or has he aged faster at Kentucky? Must be stressful fr,” another fan commented.
“One of the best coaches in the country. Better than Self, Izzo, Hurley, etc,” a fan wrote.
“You’re the best go Big Blue,” another fan said.
“Bearded Pope would feed generations,” one fan said about the coach’s look.
The upcoming season will be pivotal for Pope’s future in Lexington. Since taking over Kentucky in 2024, he’s made March Madness in both seasons. However, after a Sweet 16 finish in his debut campaign, the Wildcats regressed in 2025, losing to Iowa State in the Round of 32.
Milan Momcilovic was a key player responsible for the Cyclones’ victory over Pope’s team in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, he played in 37 games and averaged 16.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists.
Trent Noah shares his honest thoughts on Mark Pope’s recruitment improvement
After Kentucky missed out on top recruits such as Tyran Stokes, many questions arose about Mark Pope. However, it looks like things are slowly improving for the program.
On Tuesday, Kentucky forward Trent Noah shared his thoughts on Pope’s recruitment efforts after Milan Momcilovic’s signing.
“It’s huge,” Noah said. “He’s obviously a really good player. We got to see firsthand last year. Obviously, shoots great. I know coach Mark Pope is bringing in good people in the locker room. So that’s kind of another big thing for us.
“I’m super excited to get on campus here soon and get to work.”
Kentucky has not won a national championship since the 2011-12 season, when it defeated Kansas to lift the coveted trophy.
