“We Were a Disaster Tonight”: Mark Pope Doesn’t Mince Words After Kentucky’s Lopsided Loss vs. Vanderbilt

Mark Pope and Kentucky are in a tough spot right now. Pope is under a lot of pressure ans Kentucky has been very inconsistent. The Wildcats are fifth in the SEC with a 5-3 record and are 14-7 overall.

There have been questions about Pope’s ability to lead Kentucky in the long run. This Kentucky team is built on the backbone of a $22 million investment for the team’s recruitments and NIL spendings. Many feel that investment seems vain for now. the NCAA tournament and eventually the national championship.

Kentucky have lost every game against a ranked opponent except Rick Pitino’s St. John’s who are themselves struggling. Mark Pope’s team also lost to Missouri in a tight game where it could not finish the game well.

Kentucky’s most recent loss was possibly the most disappointing one. No. 18-ranked Vanderbilt absolutely destroyed Kentucky in a 80-55 win Tuesday.

“Yeah listen, we were a disaster tonight and that can never be acceptable. We’re also a good team and we’ll take all the lessons that we need to take from this game and we’ll be better and more prepared for it. That’s the only choice we have. And so we’ll respond in a great way,” Mark Pope said after the loss.

Kentucky is set to face its former head coach John Calipari and Arkansas next. It will be a real test of character for Kentucky in another high pressure game.
