Dan Hurley’s UConn just enriched itself in history with one of the most iconic moments in NCAA Tournaments. The Huskies completed an insane comeback from a 19-point deficit and won the Elite Eight blockbuster over Duke on Sunday. Jon Scheyer’s team was shocked to see the game slip away from their hands at the very last second.
Braylon Mullins was the hero for UConn. He not only stole the ball from Cayden Boozer but also scored the three-pointer from the logo with just 0.3 seconds remaining. The arena erupted in joy and disbelief. Hurley and company were elated, and Jon Scheyer’s team was standing, unable to process how they lost the game.
The game ended 73-72. Many were glued to their seats to see the epitome of March Madness. This is what the NCAA tournament is made for. Unbelievable victories and heroic moments. This clutch three-pointer has certainly put Mullins in UConn history forever. This also caught the eye of one of the greatest of all time, Magic Johnson.
Magic took to his X account and posted:
“UConn’s victory over Duke in the NCAA Tournament was a classic! UConn came back from a 19-point deficit to win the game 73-72 thanks to Braylon Mullins’s 3-point shot at the buzzer…it reminded me of Steph Curry – so clutch!”
UConn vs Duke Game Summary
Duke looked more focused than UConn for most of the game. They had a 15-point lead at halftime, which extended to 17 and 19 on multiple occasions. However, UConn, through resilience, fought hard to come back in the game.
Cameron Boozer once again had a great outing with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. His twin, Cayden, and Dame Sarr ended up with 15 and 10 points, respectively. However, they were eventually bested by some inspired basketball from Dan Hurley’s team. Tarris Reed Jr. scored 26 points with 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Silas Demary Jr. had 11 points. Solo Ball and Braylon Mullins ended up with 10 points each.
Mullins had not scored a single 3-pointer in the whole game. In fact, as admitted by Dan Hurley, it was a tough shooting night for both teams. However, Mullins just took a chance and scored when it mattered the most.
