Louisville Basketball Transfer Portal: Pat Kelsey Lands Major Duo to Accelerate Roster Rebuild

Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball head coach Pat Kelsey may have just pulled off one of the biggest early wins of this offseason. Louisville has landed a package deal featuring Flory Bidunga and Jackson Shelstad, two of the most highly sought-after players in the portal.

The duo’s commitment comes after a joint visit to campus, and it immediately injects both talent and momentum into a Louisville program looking to take the next step.

    How Good is Flory Bidunga?

The former Kansas big man enters as one of the top-ranked players in the transfer portal and is coming off a dominant season in the Big 12. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 13.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while anchoring the defense with 2.6 blocks per contest.

Bidunga earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors and was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, showcasing his ability to control games on both ends of the floor. For Louisville, this is the kind of player you build a roster around.

    How Good is Jackson Shelstad?

The former Oregon guard had his junior season cut short due to a hand injury, but when he was on the floor, he was electric. In just 12 games, he averaged 15.6 points and 4.9 assists this season.

Prior to that, he had already proven himself as a high-impact guard, earning All-Conference honors and establishing himself as one of the more dynamic playmakers in college basketball. If healthy, he gives Louisville a reliable offensive option, something the program has been searching for.

Kelsey’s vision for Louisville is becoming clearer, and landing a duo like Bidunga and Shelstad signals that the program is serious about competing at the highest level next season.

Now, with two elite additions already in place, Louisville has taken a significant step toward reshaping its identity.

With several spots still left to fill, the team remains active in the portal. And by securing one of the top big men and one of the top guards available, the Cardinals have already positioned themselves as a team to watch heading into next season.
