Louisville Basketball Recruiting: 6-Foot-1 Guard Makes Major Career Decision Ahead Of 2026 Season

After crashing out of the 2026 March Madness bracket following a 69-77 loss to Michigan State in round two, the Louisville Cardinals would like to better their postseason record come next CBB season.

In an effort to replicate their rich vein of history in the D1 basketball championship, Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey has already signed innumerable high-profile recruits, which also includes a couple of five- and four-star prospects ahead of the 2026 season.

However, it looks like the Cardinals’ 2026 squad is set to gain an additional hooper a full year before his original enrollment. CG Isaac Ellis, a class of 2027 commit, is all set to reclassify back into the class of 2026, reports On3’s Joe Tipton. Standing at 6’1″ and 170 pounds, Eliss’ reclassification comes on the backdrop of North Carolina finishing high school earlier, resulting in his Louisville enrollment this summer.

Having garnered a total of 31.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 9.5 assists per game this season, Pat Kelsey and his side will be more than welcoming of this decision, as this further bolsters the Cardinals’ squad ahead of their 2026 CBB campaign.

Ellis will now join the company of five-star center Obinna Ekezie and four-star guard London Johnson. Louisville’s 6’11” titan spearheads Pat Kelsey’s 2026 recruiting class, occupying the eighth spot in SC Next’s top 100 CBB recruits, while Georgia native Johnson is all set to add immense value to the Cardinals come next season.

Louisville’s Guard Duo Set To Represent Program At NFL Combine

Louisville’s proactive recruiting season could perhaps be attributed to their core mainstays set to represent the Cardinals in the upcoming 2026 NBA draft combine.

The NBA Draft Combine, which is set to take place in Chicago from May 10 to May 17, will see the guard duo of Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell suiting up for the Louisville-based program.

After battling injuries all throughout the 2025-26 season, Mikel Brown Jr. will have a point to prove in front of scouts and management alike ahead of the NBA draft set to take place in the latter part of June. While Mikel Brown Jr. was once touted to be a lottery pick, it’s fair to assume he will be one of the most in-demand players in the eyes of many of the franchises.

Meanwhile, Conwell’s four-year collegiate stay with Louisville gives the franchises a sense of consistency, a high-quality attribute that is most in demand in the league. A fruitful combine show could very well see an uptick in the draft demand of both Brown Jr. and Conwell ahead of the 2026 season.
