It’s a good time to be a Kentucky Wildcats fan, and that’s strange considering that just a few weeks ago, it appeared as if this was going to be a tough year for the Big Blue Nation (BBN).
Head coach Mark Pope was under increasing pressure after failing to recruit some top stars and potentially losing players to the NBA draft. And while Tyran Stokes did snub the Wildcats for the Kansas Jayhawks, things have significantly improved since then.
Malachi Moreno first decided to withdraw from the NBA draft and return to Kentucky, where he excelled last season. Then Milan Momcilovic committed to Kentucky after withdrawing from the draft. Fans were understandably excited, and now that excitement is set to escalate after the Lexington program announced a major relief plan for its college fans.
Kentucky announced that it was reducing its prices at concession stands.
“Game day at Kentucky is about tradition, energy and bringing people together,” Vallen Emery, executive vice president for UK enterprise success, Compass Group, said in a statement. “Our focus is on delivering great food, strong value and welcoming hospitality while introducing new offerings that reflect the flavors and traditions of Kentucky. From affordable fan favorites to local restaurant partnerships and signature menu items, we’re creating more reasons for fans to make game day memories together.”
How Did Kentucky Manage to Lower Prices So Much?
Kentucky’s partnership with Compass Group allowed prices to be lowered quite significantly, with a new $5 price point target. In fact, domestic canned beer is now available for up to 50% less, costing just $5, down from $10 earlier.
But there’s a kicker. It appears that price reductions are currently limited to on-campus venues, including Kroger Field, Historic Memorial Coliseum, and Kentucky Proud Park.
The Rupp Arena, where Mark Pope and Co. primarily play their matches, is yet to be included in the list, but at least fans on campus can now witness other Kentucky games with a bit more cash in their pockets.
