Darryn Peterson had far from ideal freshman season in college basketball due to his injuries. When he came up from high school and committed to Bill Self’s Kansas, Peterson had shown immense level of talent for his freshman season to be one and done. While it did turn out to be one and done and he did declare for the NBA draft, his season was cut short.
He could only play 24 games for Bill Self. Kansas struggled without him and sometimes even with him. The Jayhawks lost the second round of the NCAA tournament vs Rick Pitino’s St. John’s ending their season on a disappointing note. Even when Peterson was fit enough to play, he was often not a 100% fit.
He suffered from hamstring strain, ankle strain, a quad injury and then severe, recurring full body cramping. There were reports about what caused his cramping. He also came out and talked about it. Doctors revealed that high doses of creatine intake turned out to be the reason behind his cramping. In another recent interview, Darryn Peterson talked about his pain during the time.
“Everything in my body started to lock up. At first I thought it was normal cramp as you get while hooping. But that just got worse. I’m lying on the training table saying, “we got to call 911.” Everyday I had the cramps in my calves or something then in the middle of the night, my whole body. So, I am laying on the training table just not able to move like I was going to die on the table,” Darryn Peterson said.
He shared how traumatising that experience was for him. He also said that he feels completely fine now and the cramps have passed him.
Fans dismiss Darryn Peterson’s traumatising memory
Peterson claimed that creatine that he had been taking for building muscle was the sole cause behind his cramps. However, that did not make sense to most fans. They refuted his claim and doubts took over.
“I expected the DP handlers to release clarifying info (like “actually, he had high levels of creatine kinase from over-exertion”), but instead it’s just this same nonsense about too much creatine. So many questions about his health & this is the best that his camp can do. Crazy,” one fan expressed disappointment.
One fan shared a screenshot of explanation that would disprove Peterson’s claim.
“I call BS. I have been training people for 30 years. Creatine doesn’t do that. Even at high doses,” another fan claimed.
“His talent is undeniable, but the vague injury is too scary. I’m not convinced he knows what happened and how can you be sure it’s no longer an issue?” Another questioned.
“I like the kid but I don’t buy this for a second. What is he gonna do in a 82 game season? What is he gonna do in the playoffs when his legs are tired? Hope those medicals were clean,” another fan wondered.
“”I think its past me now” – wait you think? Has it happened again recently? What do you mean you think?” One fan commented.
